An Interview With Bethany Linz
Each year, we have the immense pleasure of collaborating with extraordinary artists and designers to bring our Planner Collections to life. This year, we were overjoyed to collaborate with the incredibly talented Bethany Linz, whose artistic vision added a unique touch to our 2025 Planner Collection.
Bethany’s work, known for its stunning illustrations and rich colours, captivated us from the moment we discovered it. Her unique ability to blend traditional inspirations with a modern twist made her the perfect choice to bring something truly special to our collection.
We interviewed Bethany to delve into her creative process, the inspiration behind her designs, and her artistic journey. We hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at the artistry that makes our 2025 Planner Collection truly one-of-a-kind!
Hi Beth! It’s lovely to have collaborated with you on our 2025 planner collection. To start, can you share with us a little bit about yourself and where you call home?
I live in Sydney Australia with my husband Blair and three young children. I was born in Newcastle but have lived most of my life in Sydney. I love it here, Sydney would have to be one of the world’s most beautifully situated cities, its harbour is second to none.
Could you share your background in art and where you typically draw inspiration from?
I studied Fine Art in Newcastle, majoring in Print Making and Painting. I always wanted to become a textile/wallpaper designer, so I applied to work at Mokum which is where I spent my youth learning about the trade. I have now had my own label for 12 years designing mostly wallpaper, until this year. I now create many products like, silk scarfs, tote bags and jewellery.
I draw inspiration for my designs from botanicals. Flowers and nature have a never-ending supply of inspiration of colour, patterns and grandeur. I’m also known for my love of the Victorian Era. I love the design aesthetic, the inspiration from India with the colour and indoor palms. Their stunning glasshouses. Poets, authors and most importantly Designers like William Morris.

What was it like collaborating with Bespoke Letterpress and what does the collaboration mean to you?
This is not my first time collaborating with Bespoke Letterpress, but when I was asked to be their feature artist for the year, I was so honoured! I think Alischa and I have a similar eye for design, so this collection ran so smoothly.
I can’t wait to see all my designs all over your stunning products!!
Speaking of the collection, do you have a favourite planner/illustration from the collaboration?
It’s hard to pick to be honest! You have done such a beautiful job with them. I do think the Indian Subcontinent on the Blue Plaid Planners is timeless and I love the blue. The Hydrangea on the A4 Desktop Planner is so beautiful too, this design just keeps on shining on everything it’s applied to!
Can you share the story or inspiration behind your favourite piece in your own collection?
I think my favourite design/most popular, would have to be the Indian Subcontinent Mural. It was my first ever mural design for wallpaper. I wanted a landscape that would take you back in time, to a Victorian India, one that was romanticised by the English.
This mural, unlike my other designs, was around 20 to 30 different antique lithographs that I build up like a puzzle. It was extremely time consuming, but a challenge I really enjoyed.
This design is now in people’s homes all around the world, I never get sick of seeing where it ends up.

What advice would you give to emerging artists looking to license their work or collaborate with brands?
I think what most designers lack, is knowledge on how much they are worth when it comes to collaboration. Designers and artists need more confidence in themselves, we find talking about money really hard, especially women unfortunately. So, I encourage you to educate yourselves more, talk to experienced designers, join facebook designer groups on this topic, there are a lots out there. I always ask the company who has approached me what they usually offer designers, then that gives you a foundation to work from.
Also, have a contract in place that protects your rights to your designs.
We share a common bond through our wallpaper collaborations with Milton & King. Could you tell us more about your journey into designing wallpaper? Do you have a favourite print for homes?
When I was 27, so 2011, the economy had a bad blow. I found myself needing a new job but of course the industry was suffering and there was no work.
So, I had no choice but to start my own label. After a couple of years, I was approached by Milton & King to come on board as one of their featured designers. I turned them down at first because I was with another company at the time and had just had my first child. But thankfully they chased me up again and I agreed. They since then have gone global, taking my designs and brand along with them.

How do you hope people feel when they see or use your artwork in their everyday lives?
I hope my work brings beauty and happiness into their very busy lives. I have had customers say when it comes to my wallpaper for example, that every time they walk into their newly wallpapered room, it brings a smile to their face. What more could one want?
Finally, what’s next for Bethany Linz? Can you give us a sneak peek into any upcoming projects you’re excited about?
I’m really enjoying developing products for my own brand right now. My tote bags, silk scarves and jewellery featuring my designs are doing really well. I have more size options coming in the totes which is exciting! Featuring some of our best-selling designs and more.
I also have a jewellery collection that’s in the process of being made by a company that makes stunning enamel jewellery for beautiful companies like Halcyon Days. The collection is inspired by the Milky Way, it’s also a design that is part of a new wallpaper collection that’s coming out with Milton & King later this year.
So many things happening right now! I’ll have all these new products ready for Christmas, so keep an eye out!
