An Interview with Sherry Lou

We have so enjoyed working with Sherry Lou on our 2022 Christmas Collection.

Having found Sherry on Instagram a few years ago, we began chatting about a Christmas collection together, and we are tickled pink to have now bought this collection to life! Full of lots of beautiful florals and ornaments, this collection is a beautiful feast of Christmas tones, which we aptly named "Floral Fields".

Sherry’s beautiful illustrations have flourished into the loveliest range of gift wrap, cards, gift tags and stickers, a puzzle and the cutest bauble ornaments we ever did see.

We hope you enjoy the chat we had with Sherry about her creative life and her love of Christmas.

Tell us a bit about yourself? Where do you live, who do you live with and a bit of your background?
I'm a Chinese-American artist born and raised in California (mostly) and Mexico (briefly in my childhood). I live with my husband, Eric, and our fluffy little dog, Libby. I was working in marketing for almost 10 years and painting as a stress-relieving hobby before becoming a full-time illustrator. I've been drawing my entire life and feel blessed to be able to create art full-time now.

Where do you draw inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from my parents' lively backyard, travels, and everyday life. I'm attracted to bright colors and translate that into all of my art.

What does the Christmas collection with Bespoke mean to you?
Christmas is my most favorite holiday of the year and I've admired all of Bespoke's previous Christmas collections so it was a dream come true being able to see Alischa transform my art into such high quality stationery and products! The collection is also a testament to how the beauty of art can connect us from around the world to create something magical for everyone to enjoy.

Of the Christmas collection, which item of yours is your favourite and why
It's so hard to choose just one item! But I really love the enamel ornaments because of the incredible amount of details on them and they can be hung on our tree year after year and eventually passed down from generation to generation.

What does your Christmas day look like? Do you have any Christmas traditions that you look forward to each year?
As a child, I looked forward to gathering with our family in Mexico and wrapping tamales (I was not very helpful with making them, just eating them). The house would be bustling with laughter and conversations in Chinese, Spanish and English all at the same time.

As an adult, I look forward to gathering with family from both my husband and my side for Christmas Eve dinner. My Christmas day is spent with my husband, our furbaby and myself all wearing our matching family pajamas and opening presents under the tree. We make a special chicken meal for our furbaby to enjoy as well!

Do you have any exciting projects coming up that you can tell us about?
I'm working on illustrating a children's book and several other projects involving possibly seeing my art on more products in stores in the near future, but that is all I'm allowed to say for now!
